Honda Battle of the Bands Sending Eight Bands to Atlanta

The performers for the Honda Battle of the Bands have been chosen. Eight bands from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will descend upon the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Jan. 24, 2015 to strut their stuff. They were selected thanks to the support of alumni, students, and fans who voted for them online. Howard University’s Showtime Marching Band and the Marching Tornado Band of Talladega College will be making their debut at the showcase, while Alabama State University, Bethune-Cookman University, Jackson State University, North Carolina A&T University, Southern University, and Tennessee State University will be returning for the popular event. Honda has debuted a new pedestrian detection system and braking technologies that use an array of radars and cameras to detect any objects that intersect the path of the vehicle. The system is able to detect pedestrians and other vehicles and then warns the driver of their presence before stopping the car automatically. Recently, Honda announced they will be investing an additional $50 million in solar installations. Honda’s transmission plant run, in part, by wind power has successfully made car production a cleaner process. Honda’s switch to wind energy has gained the attention of The Columbus Dispatch, who reports that six months after installing two wind turbines they are “helping Honda reach its goals to reduce the environmental impact of its products and manufacturing operations by 2020. That includes a 30 percent reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions from Honda products, compared with levels in 2000.” Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America Incorporated, located at Russels Point, Ohio, makes transmissions for the majority of Honda’s assembly plants in North America.
