Updated ASIMO to Debut on LIVE with Kelly and Michael

Honda will be unveiling the latest version of ASIMO (the Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, better known as the really awesome humanoid robot from Honda) in North America on Tuesday, April 15—something to brighten up those tax day blues. The North American debut will happen on LIVE with Kelly and Michael.

During the nationally syndicated talk show with hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, ASIMO will show off its all-new moves from improvements in hand dexterity. For example, the humanoid robot will be signing in both Japanese and American sign language. On top of that, ASIMO can now run faster and climb stairs more smoothly. Add to the list hopping, jumping, and balancing on one foot, and you’ve got a robot who means business.

“ASIMO was designed to help those in society who need assistance, and Honda believes that these improvements in ASIMO bring us another step closer to our ultimate goal of being able to help all kinds of people in need,” said Satoshi Shigemi, Senior Chief Engineer with Honda R&D Co., Ltd. in Japan, responsible for humanoid robotics.

After ASIMO’s debut, the robot will show off its talents before national tech and science media in the Big Apple.

We at Stokes Honda North, your preferred Charleston Honda dealer, will be watching when ASIMO debuts on WCIV (ABC) at 9am, bright and early. Will you?

Honda DIY Fit Kit Actually Sounds Like It Would Be Fun to Try

If April Fools’ Day were a contest, Honda would have been tops for automotive companies, though not even we here at Stokes Honda North could make an argument for it being the best prank of the day. No, that distinction would go to the Missouri University of Science & Technology (& doge). However, Honda’s revelation of the Honda Handmade Series and the Fit Kit nonetheless had us in stitches for its hilarious (and particularly spot on) portrayal of DIY culture.

The video above depicts a progressive young couple opting not to let the employees at the Celaya Assembly Plant build for them what they can happily make for themselves. After receiving the 180,000 mechanical parts in the Fit Kit by mail (and sometimes by drone), Caleb and Vanessa begin assembling their very own 2015 Honda Fit.

“We read comments every day on enthusiast forums suggesting they could build a better car themselves, so we decided to take it a step further and let people actually build one,” said Kuruma Tsukuru, global manager of the new at-home assembly project for American Honda Motor Co., Inc, in a gloriously goofy press release. “Young people around the world are making their own handmade belts, coasters and tie racks, why not their own Fit? The next generation is ripe for this personalized and cost-saving option.

“Building your own Fit is not for everyone. It requires basic mechanical skills, a creative spirit and a strong desire to connect with the product you create,” he added. “Our first customer testers show that we have customers who seek a deeper relationship with the goods they use, and we’ll now offer that.”

Actually, come to think of it, we could get on board with this idea. How about you, Charleston? Would any of the intrepid crafters among you like to try their hand at building their own car from the ground up?

Honda Creates “Living Laboratory” with Honda Smart Home

Honda, in partnership with University of California, Davis, and Pacific Gas and Electric, has created the Honda Smart Home in the Davis community. The Honda Smart Home is a “living laboratory:” a UC-Davis community member will live in the home and drive a Honda Fit EV for the next year to prove that truly green living, with zero net energy expenses, it actually reasonable and practical.

The Smart Home is projected to save more than 11 tons of CO2 emissions when compared to the combined emissions of a normal home and a gas-powered car. Through a customized energy system made by Honda, the house actually produces more energy than it uses. It then uses that surplus energy to charge a Honda Fit EV, providing enough battery life each day to power the occupant’s daily commute to and from work.

At Stokes Honda North, we’re blown away by this amazing technology, but we can’t say we’re surprised to see Honda once again on the forefront of green technology and environmental consciousness. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the success of the Honda Smart Program throughout the year. Check back with us often for updates!

Honda Odyssey Wins Best Minivan for Families for Fourth-Straight Year

Even at his apex, Michael Jordan wasn’t able to win four straight titles. Now, granted, he did make the decision to try his hand at baseball there for a bit, but it stands to reason that winning four championships in a row is a feat to which few can lay claim. The Honda Odyssey can now proudly proclaim its standing as a four-time title winner after being named “Best Minivan for Families” by U.S. News & World Report.

“The Odyssey was designed to excel in one of the harshest environments on earth, daily family use,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations for American Honda, in a press release. “Being named ‘Best Minivan for Families,’ four years in a row speaks volumes about the Odyssey’s singular commitment to be the ultimate family vehicle.”

U.S. News & World Report ranks the 2014 Honda Odyssey No. 1 among minivans for its combination of performance, interior comfort, fuel efficiency, cargo utility, safety, and reliability. Of course, these are all standard facets of the Odyssey formula; 2014’s new addition is the optional HondaVAC® system, which is the industry’s first in-car vacuum cleaner and made anyone who had ever previously worked as an engineer on a minivan slap their forehead in amazement and cry out “why didn’t I think of that?”

Want to see just what makes the 2014 Honda Odyssey not only the Best Minivan for Families, but also the Best Minivan for the Money? Don’t just take U.S. News & World Report’s word for it. Don’t even take our word for it; rather, stop out this weekend to Stokes Honda North and find out first hand!

HondaVAC Wins a 2014 VIP from Good Housekeeping

2014 Honda OdysseyThe Honda Odyssey Touring Elite is the only minivan with a built-in vacuum, the HondaVAC. It received a very coveted 2014 VIP (Very Innovative Products) Award from Good Housekeeping.

It should be of no surprise that Good Housekeeping is a well established and long-time running publication. They just selected six 2014 VIP award winners among thousands of products based on their ingenuity and the results of laboratory testing that was conducted by the engineers and scientists at Good Housekeeping Research Institute (GHRI).  They also took consumer evaluations of the product into consideration. The Honda Odyssey with HondaVAC was the only automotive product to receive a VIP award for the 2014 year.

Good Housekeeping praised the HondaVAC for solving an everyday problem. It’s a solution for families who are always on the go but need to pick up crumbs, dirt and other things from the floor of their minivan. The magazine noted “an easy-to-use 12-foot hose reaches every corner, then stows neatly in the cargo area. Our staff members could let their kids snack in transit for the very first time, stress free.”
